Mel Preimesberger is a graduate of the University of Southern California with a degree in Gerontology.  She entered the field of College Admission in the mid-eighties and has witnessed the ever-changing landscape and increased competitiveness of the admission process. 

In her role in higher education, Mel has worked on what the college admission profession refers to as “both sides of the desk.” At Sonoma Academy in Santa Rosa, California, she served as the Assistant Director of College Counseling, where she advised students and their parents about the college search and application process, wrote letters of recommendation, and presented to students and parents during evening programs. 

In addition to counseling students, Mel is a guest lecturer for the UCLA College College Counseling Certificate Program and has most recently served as an independent application reader for a highly selective university.

About Mel Preimesberger

Mel has almost 14 years of combined admission experience at the University of Southern California. As an Associate Director of Admission at the University of Southern California, her primary duties included the recruitment of general applicants, coordinating student athletic admission (both domestic and international), designing recruitment and retention plans for underrepresented and first-generation college-going students, planning large-scale events for these populations and designing workshops, outreach events and managing a file review load of approximately 600-1,000 during each admission cycle. She has had the opportunity to work with various colleges bound community organizations on both a local and national level. 

After leaving the University of Southern California, Mel continued her career in college admission as an Assistant Director of College Counseling at an Independent High School, followed by almost 15 years as an Independent College Counselor.

 

 She has also established relationships with several schools in the charter, public, and private arenas, helping their students prepare for the college admission process. As a member of professional organizations, she has worked with campus stakeholders, developing workshops for students and their families that highlight the college application and admission process. She has given presentations at the College Board and Western Association for College Admission Counselors Conferences.
